Thievin' Pet Peeve

To continue a rant I left as an anonymous poster on Cutting to the Chase, why do people feel they have a right to eat things at the grocery store before they pay for them? That is the tackiest, most presumptuous, trashiest behavior. Just a few days ago saw a young woman rip into a package of string cheese, telling her friend, "I want one NOW!" I've seen parents feeding cookies to their whining children. All of this while still loading up the basket. And then there are the ones who grab a Coke and take some swigs while in the check-out line.

Can anyone say, "Culture of Instant Gratification?"

What a bunch of spoiled brats!

Of course these sightings have all occurred at Lil'Red's favorite store, Wal-Mart. What else should I expect from the great unwashed?

Other things to expect from the great unwashed:

- Odors
- Either the most lax or most inappropriately harsh parenting performed in public
- A sense of undeserved superiority
- Gaps between teeth and ears

And spotting these teeming masses is best at about 2 a.m., when the best of the worst congregate in the aisles.

I know you are ranting, but you are cracking me up. People can get their sodas out of the machine when they enter the store. Maybe Wal-Mart should also offer some Wet Wipes too.

As a matter of fact, I wouldn't mind some complimentary Purell by the meat counters. Not that I break that stuff out of the package and eat it. The moment I see someone downing a raw chicken drumstick I'm running for the hills.

Well, you know, washing the Great Unwashed wouldn't necessarily help matters; it's like spray-painting a road apple.

Obviously I'm a little late on this ...

But what, in the name of all that is holy, were you doing at WalMart?
